Industrial Affiliates of the Precision Engineering Center (PEC)

The PEC's efforts are directed toward developing technology useful to industry. This mission requires a partnership that fosters a continuing dialogue between the PEC's faculty, staff, and students, and technology leading companies.

Through the PEC's Industrial Affiliates program, corporations, government agencies, and other types of organizations are able to sponsor and participate in precision engineering research. Apart from supporting staff and graduate students, the Affiliates help to define new research activities. Twice a year the Affiliates gather at the PEC to discuss research results with PEC faculty, staff, students and other affiliates. One sponsor said that the Affiliate meetings alone were worth the membership fee because of the perspective provided by visiting with counterparts from companies who are interested in precision manufacturing and measurement.

In addition to basic membership, many members fund secondary core projects that are directed toward a specific interest with results communicated to all of the members. The Affiliates receive regular research reports, access to world-class research facilities and are afforded an opportunity to recruit outstanding graduate students for their firms.

As part of the Industrial Affiliates program, sponsors may also send their research personnel to North Carolina State University to participate in the PEC's research and educational programs on an in-residence basis. students also perform research on the premises of sponsoring companies, particularly during the summer months.
